Inspire!

Teckwood’s hard-wearing vinyl laminate flooring was the ideal solution for a London charity.

Inspire! is a registered charity established in 2004. It is and Educations-Business Partnership working in Hackney, Camden and Islington. Like many charities it does not have a great deal of funding.

The work of Inspire! is to enable young people to learn about work and gain practical experience of the skills and attributes required by employers. It is also tailored to engage and meet the needs of young people who are at risk of being excluded from mainstream education or who are not in education or training. As part of the charity’s work Inspire! has a specialist school, Inspired Directions School (IDS), which caters to the most vulnerable young people in the Hackney borough, many of whom have complex learning needs.

Teckwood was delighted to assist with the project of transforming a cold 90s building into a welcoming and functional space for the IDS students, as well as an open-plan office for the Inspire! charity staff.

Project Manager Julia Nicholas said “The main focus of of the refurbishment was to provide increased space and greater potential for creative learning”. Julia also took an active role in the laying of 300 square metres of flooring along with local carpenter Marius, who dedicated four full weeks of his time to help with the project.

Teckwood’s European Class B Fire Rated flooring is designed to be both hard-wearing and low maintenance which makes it suitable for a variety of different uses. This was perfect for the IDS refurbishment project, which needed flooring what can withstand heavy usage including disabled access routes, while still giving warm life to its surroundings.

The students started making the space their own, helping to decorate and designing a mural in the recording studio. The new facilities also include separate art therapy and music production rooms, which will enable Inspire! to place a strong emphasis on developing creative expression and confidence, in addition to core qualifications.

Teckwood hopes that, with its assistance, Inspire! can achieve its goal.
