No matter which Teckwood composite decking system you are looking to use we can all agree that Teckwood’s Vintage composite decking system made a big splash recently on 5Star’s hit garden renovation series, Filthy Gardens SOS. Series one episode three was aired 25 November 2021. It was set in the seaside town of Seaham in County Durham.
Filthy Gardens
Filthy Garden SOS meets desperate owners whose out of control gardens are more of a dumpsite or jungle than sanctuary. For those willing to work hard to fix their problem, help is at hand.
Award-winning garden designer Diarmuid Gavin, fellow designer and community garden champion Danny Clarke and Penny Lamb, who has the power tools to transform any landscape, have just days to teach the owners how to create a gorgeous garden that’s easy to look after.
After doing their share of clearing waste, building and planting, it’s time for the owners to reveal their new garden to their families and friends.
Season 1, Episode 3
Award-winning garden designer Diarmuid Gavin and his crack team of garden transformers, Danny Clarke and Penny Lamb, were stunned to find a lethal garden, the size of two tennis courts, full of brambles, domestic and commercial waste, boulders and a family with twins who are about to start walking and want to play outdoors.
The team answered an SOS call from Becky and Michael. Eighteen months ago they discovered they were going to have the family they always wanted and moved home and renovated just before Rory and Kitty arrived. They were so ashamed of their garden adjacent to their house they pretended it was not theirs. They were intimidated by the sheer size of their overgrown garden and did not know where to start but were determined to have somewhere safe for the children to play growing up.
Diarmuid, Danny and Penny wonder if this time they had taken on more than they can handle. Initially they had to clear the space is to see what they dealing with to create a design. Their biggest landscape team with a posse of five diggers’ were needed from Day 1.
To get maximum use from the 650 sq m space with a slope, the design was broken down into different areas including social spaces such as ellipsis lawns and two decking areas, one square and one circular (by Teckwood), to a working greenhouse and vegetable garden.
Becky and Michael threw themselves into every garden task from digging up the unwanted roots, to painting, laying turf, laying out the flower beds and tending to the vegetables.
How did Becky and Michael feel about their finished garden and have they learned enough from Diarmuid, Danny and Penny for everyone to believe they will be able to look after this garden when the team leaves?
