Lets go over the functions of a Pedestal and a little further on we will cover how it benefits any decking project.
What is a Pedestal in construction?
Pedestals have been used for centuries but not as we recognise them now. They were first employed by the architects of ancient Rome to make a column look more imposing. The Romans also used pedestals when they invented the Hypocaust system of under floor heating.
Eterno Ivica is a total solution provider of pedestal support systems and has been in business for over 65 years. It is a family run company with Gabriele Favero being the CEO and his daughter Francesca the MD of the UK arm.
They have distributors in 30 plus countries worldwide. They are committed to provide high quality adjustable plastic and metal pedestal products and tile levelling products along with a professional solution consulting service and technical support for architects, main contractors and DIYers alike.

Teckwood have signed a distribution agreement and will provide specific pedestal solutions for Architects, Designers, Constructors and Installers by providing a distinguished high degree of quality and innovation for internal and external flooring applications. - The installation is quick and easy as the pedestal supports are extremely simple to use
- High compression strength offering up to 1200Kgs loading capacity
- Designed to be simply laid over the waterproofing membrane or any other surface to be paved or decked.
- Pinpoint precision changes can be made to finished floors by using the adjustment key

- Reduced heat conductivity due to the elevation of pavers or decking and improved air circulation. As a result the membrane is kept from expanding and the insulation thermal efficiency is maintained
- Self levelling slope correction of up to 5%
- Progressive changes to height increments
- Locking rings for assured rigid assembly
- The tabs are removable with ease while the base presents innovative pre marked incisions for an easy and precise cutting
- The large contoured soft bases prevent damage to the membrane
- Allows easy access to the underlying layers when repairs need to be carried out
- Can be easily taken away and reused in another position
- UV protected giving longer operational life
What are the functions of a pedestal?
- To carry the load from the column to the footing/base safely.
- To distribute the load from the column evenly over a wide area on the footing.
- To prevent the column from contacting the membrane
- Protection of the roof membrane
- Effective storm water management

Eterno Ivica pedestals are the go to solution if you want a beautiful paved terrace or decking area that is free draining, compatible with waterproofing membranes, easy to install and with very economical labour costs.
More and more roof and balcony designs incorporate a completely flat upper surface in order to utilize them more effectively as leisure areas.
