The role of composite decking in garden design

Decking is an above ground structure that is popular in domestic and commercial properties. Whilst it’s traditional function has been and still is to provide greater practicality in the garden, in recent years, decking has been used to accommodate various design styles.

Traditional role

The appeal of decking came from its ability to make an area suitable for socialising. Teckwood’s composite decking can support the weight of people and objects making it an ideal recreational area. Areas that saw little use in the past due to their surface can now be used all year round.

Their new role

In recent years, composite decking has been more widely adopted by garden designers and landscapers due to its versatility. Here are just couple of the design benefits of using decking:

  1. More natural appearance – Compared to other types of materials composite decking has a more natural look, which suits the garden better. The composite wood is versatile, so either rural or contemporary designs are easy to achieve.
  2. Smooth-out uneven grounds – It is common to see gardens and outdoor areas with slops and gradients that can create the appearance of uneven ground. Teckwood’s composite decking can be used to counteract these by using design techniques such as levels and steps.
  3. Can be used to increase the value of a property – Decking is often seen as an extension of the living area, thereby making the property appear bigger. This can have a positive effect on the value of the property.
  4. A perfect companion to pools and hot tubs – Outdoor water attractions, in particular hot tubs are ever increasing in popularity. Composite decking and a strong framework can support the weight of such attractions and features can also be ‘sunk’ into a decked area for a cleaner look.
